Hot Cocoa Dip Recipe (Hot Chocolate Dip Recipe)
Hot cocoa dip is like a cup of creamy hot cocoa in dip form! All the flavors of hot cocoa are in this chocolatey dip that’s perfect for this holiday season.
This no bake dessert dip is one of my favorite things for a cozy nights in, movie nights with the family, or a fun treat to take to holiday parties.
Simple Ingredients Needed
- Cream Cheese : Make sure the cream cheese is well softened so it blends in smoothly and does not create lumps in the mixture. I also recommend using full-fat cream cheese, rather than 1/3 reduced-fat or fat-free, as that will give the dip the creamiest texture and best taste.
- Marshmallow Creme : Also called marshmallow fluff.
- Cool Whip : Use the classic version of whipped topping or the ‘creamy’ version is also really yummy in this dessert dip recipe.
- Hot Cocoa Mix : You can either measure out 1 cup of the dry hot chocolate powder, or use about 6-8 hot cocoa packets. I recommend using regular milk chocolate mix in this recipe, but you could always switch it up and see how you like (mint chocolate, dark chocolate, etc).
- Mini Christmas Mix M&M’s
- Mini Marshmallows and/or Marshmallow Bits
How To Make 4 Ingredient Hot Chocolate Dip (Printable Recipe Card)
In a large bowl using an electric hand mixer, or use the bowl of stand mixer with the paddle attachment, beat the cream cheese until smooth and creamy.
Add in the marshmallow creme and beat until well combined and fluffy.
Add in the dry hot cocoa mix, a little bit at a time, mixing thoroughly after each addition to ensure it’s evenly distributed and dissolves/blends in well.
Add the Cool Whip and mix on low speed just until incorporated and the dip is lighter in color, fluffy, and airy. Be careful to not overmix! You want to keep the dip nice and fluffy, so just mix until it’s incorporated.
Transfer the hot chocolate dip to a serving bowl. Garnish the dip with some Christmas mini m&m’s and mini marshmallows for a fun and festive look. Serve the hot cocoa dip alongside some dipping options; graham crackers, pretzels, Nilla wafers, cookies, strawberries, apple slices, shortbread cookies, fudge stripe cookies, animal crackers, candy canes, etc. Serving the dip right away yields a softer, fluffy dip that is not chilled in temperature. If you prefer a slightly firmer and chilled dip (me!), cover the bowl of dip with a lid or plastic wrap and refrigerate for up to 4 hours.
How To Store Leftover Hot Cocoa Dip
Store the dip, inside an airtight container, in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. I recommend leaving the garnishes off of the leftover dip – especially the m&m’s which will bleed their color into the dip. The marshmallows should be just fine, they will just soften up once refrigerated.
Tips For Success
- If the dip feels too soft for serving, once you have mixed everything together, chill the dip for 30 minutes or up to 4 hours before serving it. I prefer this dip once it has chilled and has time to firm up and for the flavors to blend together better.
- If you are refrigerating the dip, you will want to set the dip out at room temperature for about 10 minutes, to soften it slightly for serving.
- Other garnish ideas include chocolate sauce or syrup, chocolate shavings, mini chocolate chips, or marshmallow ice cream sundae topping.
Fun Variations Of This Dip
- Peppermint Hot Cocoa Dip : Use peppermint instant hot chocolate mix and try adding just a drop or two of peppermint extract. Serve with some peppermint Oreo cookies or other peppermint flavored dipping options.
- Mint Chocolate Hot Cocoa Dip : Use mini hot cocoa powder mix and serve with some Mint Oreo cookies.
- White Chocolate Hot Cocoa Dip : Use white chocolate hot chocolate powder and garnish the top of the dip with white chocolate shavings (use a vegetable peeler and a white chocolate bar to make chocolate shavings).
